So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
I seem to recall plenty on here were advocating the return of billy big bollocks Rio Ferdinad this summer, presumably in place of Tomkins?

Now what bothers me is it was obvious to anyone with a clue that he was finished at the top level, as we have now seen with his embarrassing performances with QPR, but many here wanted the old man back?

So come on, who were you? Let's not be shy now..

Mugs.

Nothing wrong with Rio earning one last payday. London club came in for him and he took the deal this will be his last season.

Hes 35 and was a good player still 2 years ago whilst 4 he was world class.

Not like theres something else he could be doing right now that pays more than QPR. If Im QPR and I get relegated I even ask him to return for another season.

It's very sad to see one of our old boys, and former exceptional talent, stuttering to the end of his career, rather than going out on a high

I think the original post was someting like "Would you have Rio or Carrick back if they become available in the summer?"

I have to admit I said yes to Carrick & no to Rio

Given the completely unexpected plethora of superb signings made by us in the summer, the answer should have been no on both counts!

Re: So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
I do not think he would get in our team, but I would like him back, he would be a good bench warmer to keep the kids on their toes.
Maybe could give some good advice as well, but not so sure on that one...

Re: So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
Rio has looked poor and disinterested. He has other business outside of football and is clearly only at QPR for the money and because he could get a game on his reputation.
Should have retired as now he is tainting what's truely great defender he was.
As for this twitter nonsense, players should be allowed free speech. Pathetic PC nonsense from the FA. Its got nothing to do with them.

Thats not the Rio I wanted back. I wanted the one who left.
Same with Joe Cole

Re: So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
QPR is a horrible place for him to finish off, but given they were the only ones in for him tells you everything you need to know.

Lampard goes to City & Rio to QPR

Rio had gone in football terms by about two seasons ago.

Re: So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
Wanted to get back darn sarf with one last payday whilst he sorts out his personal future. And he obviously thought West Ham would be the patsies as we have been for so many others.
Nice to see someone else get the shitstick for a change.

I didn't want him back but i wont slag him off either. He should have retired last summer. it was clear last season he was finished. Gerrard has the same problem this year. Should make this season his last.

I didn't want Rio back. But it was purely down to the fact that the bloke is a complete and utter fucking nob.

These people who go on twitter and abuse celebs, then someone like Rio does a crap your momma type joke and they get offended , seem a little precious to be fair. It highlights how pathetic the world has become, get him on a diversity and inclusion course now, pathetic

I have to say P, I'm a little surprised that you're ageist.

Re: So who were the mugs on here that wanted Rio back?
Allardyce has done an amazing job in the summer. The average age of the team against Norwich last season was 29, whereas it was 26 on Sunday.

There's several risks with deals involving anyone over 28. Personally, I think it should be an exception for us to sign anyone at age or over. There's plenty of players out there to choose from, Cresswell, Sakho, Poyet are all examples. Not particularly spectacular transfers, but decent business.

I'd have said no to Rio, and on the evidence so far this season, that would have been the right decision. Sadly.

His middle name is Gavin, for that reason I did not want him back!
